“Action speaks louder than words but not nearly as often.”
― Mark Twain
That’s an awesome quote that I never bothered to take time to focus on. Jesus asked us to love God and to love our neighbors. It is an easy thing to tell someone you love them. But, what are we doing to show it? Everyone is busy these days, myself included. Sometimes, we just can’t fit the action into our schedules. However, the Bible says:
My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
1 John 3:18 NKJV
It’s time to start adjusting schedules here. We did this recently with a friend who was feeling very low. My daughter and I had plans, but after receiving this information, we decided that our friend needed us more than we needed to make that appointment. So, we took the time to visit with our friend instead, giving that friend our time, listening ears, and love.
But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?
1 John 3:17 NKJV
Sometimes, you may be the only example of God’s love that person will see. Your decisions may either plant a seed or cause that person to shun God altogether. And, where would we be if Jesus came down, said “I love you” and just ascended. Without His action, we would not have the salvation that we do now.
Let’s all make the decision to reschedule our lives when we’re needed. Pray about it and ask God, who needs me more right now? It could make all the difference in the world for that person reaching out.
