How to Tell if Someone is a Christian
When you see a woman in a hijab or a burka, you immediately know that she is Muslim. When you see a woman wearing a tichel you know that she is Jewish. You can tell that by their coverings.
It’s a bit different with Christians. We don’t wear anything that would make us easily identifiable. Some may wear crosses, but people who don’t follow the Bible wear crosses. It’s almost like a fashion statement. However, for those who do study their Bible, meditate on it, and walk in the Spirit, you can tell without even knowing them. Here are a few attributes of a true Christian.
Attributes
Anyone who has the Holy Spirit will produce fruit.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:3 (ESV)
Their faith will lead them to produce good works.
14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? James 2:14 (ESV)
That person will seem different from others.
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)
She will follow the commandments.
30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31 (ESV)
She will forgive others.
15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matthew 6:15 (ESV)
She shows grace.
Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful. Luke 6:36 (ESV)
It is Easy to Tell
There are many attributes of a true Christian. So, even though we don’t cover our faces or our hair, we are filled with the Holy Spirit. People should be able to look at a Christian and tell that she follows Christ. Her relations with others will be different.
I have two friends who are so filled with the Spirit that you can’t help but tell. They are constantly praising God and encouraging others. They serve and give joyfully. You can’t help but feel love when you’re around them.
Final Thoughts
That’s how we should be. We don’t need a physical covering. The way we live our lives should make our faith evident. People will just know that there is something different about us because of how we live our lives. We are God’s chosen people and our lives should reflect this.
