Open Your Eyes
Does it feel like the enemy is all around you and you are trapped? I know this feeling well. It seems that the situation is hopeless. You want to throw up your hands and give up or give in. However, this is when we really need to speak to God. Ask God to open your eyes so that you can see what God has in store for you. This is what the prophet Elisha asked God to do for his servant.
15 When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked.
16 “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
17 And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
2 Kings 6:15-17(NIV)
When Elisha was surrounded by an army, his servant was afraid. He saw nothing but the army surrounding them. He was worried because he could not see what God had in store. Elisha was not afraid. His eyes were already opened. He saw a completely different scene. He asked God to open the eyes of his servant. Once the servant’s eyes were opened, he was able to see God’s army surrounding the army of the king. The servant was no longer afraid because he saw God’s protection.
Surrounded by God’s Army
We are being attacked constantly. The closer you are to God, the more the enemy will attack. It will do anything to take your eyes off God. The attacks aren’t all bad on the outside. It may be something as simple as an old habit that you had before that seems innocent enough to start back. But before you know it, you’re caught up in something that is taking your time away from God, your family, work, or rest.
As the Lord to open your eyes, even when you don’t feel an attack. As Him to help you see everything in your life that is taking you away from His glory. Chances are, you will be shown things that you weren’t even aware of.
When you do feel cornered, ask God to open your eyes so that you can see a way out of the situation. You may find that the situation actually isn’t what it seems or that it isn’t as bad as it seems. You may see the way out or how God is protecting you.
In all things, trust the Lord. Ask for His guidance. See how He wants you to react when faced with certain things. Ask for the courage to face your problems head on.
Prayer for today
Our Father, please open our eyes to the things we can’t see. Please show us how to handle difficult decisions. Please show us things in our lives that are distracting us from your purpose. Please give us the courage to change and press on. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Have a blessed day.
