10 Things You Can Do With Coconut Oil
Last fall, I bought a jar of unrefined coconut oil. It was by accident, I meant to get something else but didn’t have my list and grabbed coconut oil instead. So, I looked up what to do with it and a bunch of amazing articles popped up. I picked 10 to write about that I’ve either tried or would like to try. Here is a list of ten things you can do with coconut oil.

Coconut Oil Uses
1. Coconut Oil and Honey Sugar Scrub
I decided to try one and chose a coconut oil and honey sugar scrub. It smelled wonderful and was super easy to do. I used it for my hands and arms, but then started using it on my face. It’s a great exfoliant. I used 1 cup of coconut oil, 1 cup of granulated sugar, and just squeezed the honey in. I mixed it together and put them in small jars. I gave some as gifts, sold some, and used the rest for myself.
2. Coconut Oil Hair Moisturizer
I wanted to try this with my daughter’s hair but she wasn’t going for it so I tried it in mine. I put a pit of coconut oil in a separate jar to only use for my hair. I scooped a little bit and rubbed it in my palms to warm it up. I then spread it on a section on my hair, twisted the hair and left it that way for the night. The next day, it was still soft and the section came out nice and wavy. It stayed that way throughout the day.
3. Soothe Bug Bites
Coconut oil has antibacterial properties and can help soothe bug bites and heal cuts. We haven’t tried this yet.
4. Soothe Dry Skin
This was actually the first thing I discovered. When trying to make the sugar scrub, I used my finger to get the coconut oil off the spoon. That meant is was stuck on my finger and I smooth it on my hand. It initially felt greasy but then soaked right in and left my hand really smooth and soft.
5. Teeth Whitening/Oral Hygiene
I’d never heard of oil pulling until I started looking up coconut oil uses but apparently it’s a thing. And it works! Rinse your mouth with water first, then put a teaspoon of coconut oil in your mouth. Swish it around for about 20 minutes, then rinse it out. Continue with your daily dental routine. The oil is suppose to get the bacteria out of your mouth. I just don’t have the patience to switch oil in my mouth for 20 minutes.
6. Coconut Oil Deodorant
It kills off bacteria and yeast which causes the odor. However, it’s not an antiperspirant so I don’t think I’ll try one just yet.
7. Use as a lotion
Combine one cup coconut oil, two teaspoons of almond oil, and two drops of your favorite essential oil. I haven’t tried this yet but plan to very soon!
8. Makeup Remover
If your oil is in it’s solid form, melt it and apply it to a cotton ball. Use on to remove your makeup. We actually tried this on my daughter when she got her temporary hair color all over her neck. It was supposed to wash off with water, but didn’t. So, we tried the coconut oil and it worked!
9. Lip Balm
I tried this a really like it. I place a little on my finger and smoothed it over my lips. Although, it didn’t seem to last as long as Aquafor, I’m going to stop with the chap stick and use coconut oil instead.
10. Shaving Cream
I only have a juicer, not a blender, so I haven’t tried this yet. Blend it until it looks like whipped cream and smooth it on to use instead of shaving cream. I wonder if using my hand held mixer will get the same effect?
Have a blessed day.
