Things To Do When You Feel Drained.
Sometimes, I feel drained. I wake up and don’t feel like studying the Bible or praying. I don’t even feel like getting up. Life seems overwhelming at times and just out of control. If you have those days, know that it’s normal. There is simply too much going on sometimes and you’re only one person. But, whatever you don’t, don’t skip that time with the Lord.
Start off slow.
It’s hard to focus when your mind is so full of ideas, problems, or plans. If you’re dealing with that, use the time to listen to worship music instead. Just be quiet and listen. Take in the words of the song and focus on God. Be specific in the music you’re playing and ensure that it’s focusing on who God is. By listening and singing Biblical worship songs, you are strengthening yourself and honoring God.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Colossians 3:16 (ESV)
Start talking.
If you don’t feel like listening to music, or if you’re listening but still feel drained, start talking. It doesn’t matter where you are, just start talking to God. Let Him know how you feel. He knows already but you need to get this off your heart and talking to God is a way of fellowshipping with Him. Telling God what’s on our hearts is our way of demonstrating our faith in Him. Ask Him to help you during this time. Praying can help ease the anxiety rising inside you.
6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Philippians 4:6 (ESV)
Write things down.
It’s good to get things off your chest. If I’ve got a lot of plans (or problems) in my head, I put them in my planner or journal. Seeing it on paper makes it much easier to handle. You can organize things and may notice that things are not as bad as they seem. However, in all things, pray over your decisions. If a person is committed to God, He will put His plans in her heart.
3 Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.
Proverbs 16:3 (ESV)
Always give thanks.
Regardless of what’s going on, there is always something to be thankful for. If nothing comes to mind, be thankful for God’s grace and mercy. The fact that He sent His Son to die in our place shows this. Think about how much God loves you. Focus on His love and the fact that the One who created everything sees you and loves you.
17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:16-19 (ESV)
Still feel drained?
Sometimes our days are just “blah”. It happens. However, continue to focus on God. Play your worship songs, pray and write out your feelings, and offer thanks in all things. God will move on your heart if you stay committed to Him. Don’t allow negativity to cloud your thoughts. That’s the work of the enemy.
Focus on the goodness of God. Take some time for yourself and just be still. Give yourself a few minutes of alone time without guilt. We all deserve it and definitely need it.
Have a blessed week!
Before you go…
Are you struggling with the belief that God actually loves you? Do you struggle to believe that He wants a real relationship with you? I struggled with this for years. Through studying the scripture, I grew to understand God’s love, grace, and mercy. I created a 30-day book that I believe will help you, too.
